Chelsea transfer news:
Chelsea Transfer Rumour_ Bayern Bound_
Chelsea transfer news: Chelsea could face a major decision over their right-back options, with Malo Gusto reportedly available for transfer in the upcoming window.
According to transfer expert Sacha Tavolieri, the French international has attracted interest from Bayern Munich for several years. Last summer, his representatives contacted several leading European sides, including the German club, to assess their interest. However, negotiations didn’t progress because Chelsea demanded just under €90 million.
That position could change. Tavolieri reports that Chelsea have indicated they could sell Gusto, potentially lowering their asking price and opening the door to fresh approaches.
The 23-year-old joined Chelsea from Lyon in 2023 and has offered valuable cover for Reece James, whose fitness record has often forced the club to manage his minutes carefully. Gusto brings recovery pace, attacking runs and the ability to operate in different defensive roles.
However, any move would depend on sporting ambition. Gusto would reportedly consider leaving only if a potential destination represented a genuine step forward in his career.
Why could Chelsea consider selling Gusto?
Chelsea’s decision would depend on their wider squad plans, rather than simply the money they could collect from a sale.
Josh Acheampong’s development could influence the club’s thinking. The academy defender offers another option at right-back, although Chelsea would need to assess whether he can handle the demands of regular first-team football across a full season.
Selling Gusto could generate substantial funds for other positions. Chelsea might use that money to recruit a natural winger who holds the width or a midfielder who can carry possession through pressure and improve their progression through central areas.
Nevertheless, removing an established full-back carries risks. James has struggled with availability, while Acheampong still needs experience. Chelsea could weaken their defensive depth if they sell Gusto without securing suitable cover.
Chelsea transfer news: Would selling Gusto make tactical sense for Chelsea?
Chelsea should consider a sale only if the fee reflects Gusto’s value and funds a clear improvement elsewhere.
His pace and overlapping runs give the team an outlet on the right, while his defensive recovery speed helps when attacking players lose possession. Those qualities become particularly useful when Chelsea commit numbers forward and leave space behind their full-backs.
Acheampong’s emergence offers encouragement, but potential alone cannot replace proven senior experience. Chelsea must judge his readiness through regular performances, defensive positioning and consistency against stronger opponents.
My view is that Chelsea should resist selling Gusto simply to balance their books. A reduced asking price could attract serious interest, yet the club must first establish whether Acheampong can shoulder greater responsibility and whether James can remain available.
If those conditions look favourable, a substantial fee could finance a more pressing tactical need. Otherwise, keeping Gusto would protect a position that could quickly become vulnerable through injuries, fixture congestion and inconsistent performances.
