Chelsea could consider a €100 million deal for Atletico Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios as they look to strengthen their midfield. Arsenal and Liverpool are also monitoring the 23-year-old, while Paris Saint-Germain could join the race for the Spanish international, as per latest transfer news.
Chelsea prepare major move for Pablo Barrios
Chelsea are looking at ways to improve their midfield and consider Barrios to be a valuable addition. The Atletico Madrid midfielder has developed into a prominent player under Diego Simeone, combining defensive work andcarrying the ball forward while also controlling possession.
As reported by CaughtOffside, Chelsea are preparing a potential €100m bid for Barrios, although Atletico have not received a formal approach. The reported offer could test the Spanish club’s position, but there is no indication that they are ready to negotiate.
Barrios has a contract running until June 2030, this gives Atletico a big say regarding his future. His release clause is reportedly set at €500m, meaning Chelsea would need to negotiate a separate agreement rather than rely on the amount being discussed in transfer reports.
A fee between €100m and €110m could reportedly open the door to talks. However, Atletico have little reason to rush into a sale, particularly with Barrios playing an important role in their plans. For Chelsea, the midfielder could provide greater balance in the centre of the pitch. His energy, passing and ability to regain possession would offer another option as the club look to compete consistently in the Premier League.
Arsenal and Liverpool also monitoring midfielder
Chelsea are not the only English club keeping tabs on Barrios. Arsenal and Liverpool have also been linked with the midfielder as look at additions for future transfer windows.
Arsenal tried to sign him earlier this year, but Atletico were reportedly unwilling to sell. The Gunners then moved on to other midfield targets. Liverpool are also watching players who could give them more options in midfield. Barrios can help his team in many ways. He can defend, press opponents and move the ball forward under pressure. This makes him a good option for clubs looking for a midfielder who can help in both attack and defence. He is also only 23, which gives him plenty of time to improve his game.
However, Atletico may not let him go easily. Losing a key player would force Simeone to change his midfield. The club would also demand a high fee before considering an offer. This could make a deal difficult for any club hoping to sign him.

PSG interest could increase transfer battle
Paris Saint-Germain are also keen on Barrios, with Luis Enrique reportedly impressed by the midfielder. Their interest could make a deal harder for Chelsea. Atletico are in a strong position, as Barrios is under contract and remains key to the team. They have no need to sell and will expect a strong offer.
A £100million deal would cost Chelsea a lot. The club must decide if Barrios is worth that price. Liverpool and Arsenal would face the same choice, especially if PSG also enter the race.
For the time being, the reported interest has not materialised into a confirmed transfer deal. But Barrios remains an Atletico player and the next step will depend on whether Chelsea or another interested party makes a formal approach. If the interest continues to grow, the Spanish midfielder could be one of the biggest names in the upcoming football transfer market.
