Eagles Suffer Another Brutal Injury To Their Backfield

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Will Shipley will be out for multiple weeks, leaving Philadelphia with even fewer options at running back as the team tries to get its season back on track. Shipley’s injury occurred during the Eagles’ 19-17 loss to Jacksonville in London, adding to an already growing list of problems for the team’s rushing attack.

The timing could hardly be worse for Philadelphia. Starting running back Saquon Barkley is dealing with a hamstring injury that forced him to miss Sunday’s game, while backup Tank Bigsby is already on injured reserve after suffering a core muscle injury. Shipley stepped into the starting role against Jacksonville with both players unavailable, only to suffer an injury of his own.

Shipley had a limited impact before leaving Sunday’s game, finishing with five carries for six yards and a touchdown, along with one reception for seven yards. His absence left the Eagles scrambling for answers in the backfield, with Dameon Pierce taking on the bulk of the rushing workload after Shipley went down.

Pierce finished with 11 carries for just 14 yards, while Philadelphia struggled to establish any consistency on the ground. The Eagles finished the game with only 22 rushing yards on 18 attempts, according to reports, as their offense struggled during the narrow defeat.

Now, the Eagles face uncertainty heading into their upcoming matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Barkley’s status remains a major question, and Bigsby is expected to miss additional time while on injured reserve. With Shipley potentially sidelined for multiple weeks, Pierce and Carson Steele could be asked to handle larger roles unless Philadelphia makes another roster move.

For an Eagles team with postseason aspirations, the mounting injuries at running back are becoming an increasingly difficult problem to ignore. The hope will be that Barkley can return soon, but until then, Philadelphia must find a way to get its rushing attack back on track with limited healthy options.
