Washington Commanders fans experienced a roller coaster of emotions Sunday. They watched Jayden Daniels return to the field after his recent elbow injury and run for two long touchdowns, only for the team to blow a lead and squander an opportunity to win at the end of the game.
Season ticket-holder Robert Potter spent half the game at Northwest Stadium before heading to Joe Theismann’s Restaurant in Alexandria, Virginia, due to the rain.
Potter said the Commanders appeared to have the game under control, as they had a 14-point fourth-quarter lead before the Giants came back to tie the game to go into overtime.
“We watched this amazing game. Giants gave a great battle back, but Commanders had it. Bad clock management,” Potter said.
Washington got the ball with two minutes left in OT, and drove down the field to put the team in position for a game-winning field goal. But with 12 seconds left and the ball at the New York 24 yard line, Daniels [took an ill-advised scramble and went down](https://wtop.com/washington-commanders/2026/10/jayden-daniels-and-commanders-settle-for-27-27-tie-with-giants-after-botching-final-play-of-ot/). The Commanders had with no timeouts left to stop the clock and Daniels couldn’t spike the ball in time.
Longtime fan Winston Williams said he is frustrated with the team and now wonders if more changes are needed in the team’s leadership.
“Somebody has got to be fired for that call. It’s a disaster. … It’s just a joke of a team right now,” Williams said. “It’s always kind of been like we just start to get momentum going and then something knocks us back, and it’s been an exhausting fandom for me for sure.”
Williams said he will remain loyal to the team despite his disappointment. He’s hoping for improvements throughout the rest of the season.
“Tough times don’t last, tough people do,” Jayden Daniels said after the game. “We have a brotherhood in there.”
