Chris Cenac Jr. continues to grow while with the Celtics, earning early praise from his teammates. He’s ready to prove he belongs when the lights shine brightest.
Cenac was a consensus five-star prospect at Houston. He led Houston in rebounds (7.9 RPG) last year, helping the team reach the Sweet Sixteen. After a run with the Cougars, Cenac went 27th overall in the NBA Draft.
During Summer League play, Cenac produced 14 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocks in the Celtics’ opener. In his preseason debut against the Cavaliers, he scored seven points and had eight rebounds and four blocks in 24 minutes.
Cenac passed his first real test, making his TD Garden debut. He scored five points and had five rebounds in seven minutes. Even with limited playing time, he made the most of the opportunity.
"Felt pretty good playing in The Garden. I knew I was going to get it, but I did get in a little earlier than expected. But I was ready. I will always be ready when my name's called," Cenac said via CLNS Media.
If all goes according to plan, Cenac will be an impactful player on the Celtics’ roster. Given the early praise he’s been getting, it could be sooner rather than later.
"The two things that really stuck out to me were Chris, his ability to protect the rim, and then just him rebounding basketball — I thought he did a really good job of that," Celtics assistant coach D.J. MacLeay said about Cenac after the preseason opener via SB Nation.
