There is a clear favorite to be the first NFL head coach fired this season following Sunday’s Week 5 slate of games.
Several NFL coaches are believed to be on the hot seat after making late-game blunders in Week 5, and the latest betting odds suggest one man is the favorite to be shown the door before anyone else.
Whether it was the Washington Commanders’ mind-numbing clock management at the end of overtime in their 27-27 tie against the New York Giants or the Philadelphia Eagles’ last-second collapse to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, some head coaching decisions left fans at home believing they could do a better job if they were thrown on the sidelines and given a headset.
As of Monday, Oct. 12, Commanders head coach Dan Quinn is the favorite to be the first head coach fired in 2026 at +200 odds.
In Week 5, Quinn left NFL fans everywhere scratching their heads after Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels let the clock run out at the end of overtime despite the team being within range of a game-winning field goal.
While Daniels has received plenty of stick for taking a sack on the final play of the game, Quinn will be the one feeling the most pressure, given his job is to manage the clock at the end of games and communicate with his quarterback what the plan is.
Rather than ensuring his team was set up for a game-winning field goal, Quinn was left with egg on his face as the Commanders and Giants played to a 27-27 tie. Even Washington’s ownership sounded off after the disappointing finish.
Elsewhere in the NFC East, Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was the target of criticism in his team’s dramatic 19-17 loss to the Jaguars in London on Sunday morning. As of Monday morning, Sirianni is second-favorite to be the first head coach fired at +400 odds.
After the Eagles took a 17-16 lead with eight seconds left, Philadelphia opted to kick the ball off to the Jaguars, who returned it 53 yards and into field goal range to set up the game-winning field goal.
Sirianni came under fire for his strategy, as critics felt he shouldn’t have allowed Jacksonville a chance to return the kick with an intentional touchback.
The pivotal decision is the latest on a long list of gripes Eagles fans have with their head coach amid their three-game losing streak.
Other head coaches among the favorites to be fired first are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ Todd Bowles (+450), Los Angeles Chargers’ Jim Harbaugh (+600), Houston Texans’ DeMeco Ryans (+700), and Indianapolis Colts’ Shane Steichen (+900).
