It appears that the Pittsburgh Steelers are ready to welcome Elandon Roberts back into the team, as he was released during the training camp. He will be welcomed back when the team needs better play from its inside linebackers, especially in the running game. He is familiar with the organization, having previously played under defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.

Roberts was out of a job for the beginning of the season, while he started 16 games for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2025.

As Brooke Pryor reported on ESPN on October 12, 2026, the Steelers considered him for a practice-squad spot. Information about a possible reunion came from the Steelers. Now, reporter Alan Saunders claimed on Monday that the team wants to welcome back the veteran linebacker.

A visit does not guarantee a contract; however, the interest points to a possible return for a player who spent two seasons with the Steelers before his latest stint with the Raiders.

Roberts joined the Steelers late in training camp this year but was released during final roster cuts. Head coach Mike McCarthy praised his performance at the time while explaining that roster decisions involved more than individual ability.

The coach also pointed to special teams and the team’s preferred personnel combinations as factors behind the decision. That makes this potential reunion particularly interesting. The Steelers initially decided not to retain Roberts, but the linebacker has now found himself in contention as the season rolls on.

The linebacker played for the Steelers in 2023 and 2024 before joining the Raiders last season. During that season, he recorded 90 tackles, 6 tackles for loss, and a pass deflection while starting all 16 games. The linebacker was also successful in 2023 with Pittsburgh, where he made 101 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

In his NFL career, the linebacker has recorded 694 tackles, 14.5 sacks, and 60 tackles for loss in 157 games. Roberts has also seen action with the New England Patriots and has two Super Bowl rings with them.

The Steelers have Patrick Queen and Payton Wilson as their starting inside linebackers, but both have faced criticism over their performances. The 32-year-old could provide another experienced option, especially against the run, without needing much time to learn Graham’s defensive system.

Whether Pittsburgh signs him to the practice squad or the active roster remains uncertain. For now, Monday’s visit offers Roberts a chance to return to a familiar locker room, while the Steelers get another look at a veteran they decided to release just weeks ago.
