Karl-Anthony Towns reportedly only Knick who had serious extension talks

After the New York Knicks announced that they will be pausing all extension negotiations to focus on the start of the season, a new report has revealed that not all Knicks players had serious extension talks.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Karl-Anthony Towns was the only Knick, who had seriously engaged in extension conversations with the team.

Josh Hart, Miles McBride and Tyler Kolek are all eligible for extensions, but reportedly haven't had serious negotiations with New York.

Stein notes that the Knicks have a $22.4 million team option to bring back Hart for another season, but have been prioritizing talks with Towns over him.

The Knicks announced on October 9 that they have put all contract negotiations on hold until later in the 2026-27 season.

"As an organization, our entire focus is on preparing for the upcoming season and delivering another year for our fans to be proud of," a Knicks spokesperson said, per Shams Charania of ESPN.

"As a result, we will not be negotiating contract extensions until later in the season and will remain solely focused on preparing for the start of the season."

The foursome have three key players for the Knicks, with Kolek playing the smallest role.

Towns averaged 20.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, and 3.0 assists across 75 regular-season games last season before posting 15.9 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in 19 playoff appearances during New York's championship run.

Hart averaged 12.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 4.8 assists in 66 games last season, while McBride posted 12.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 2.6 assists across 41 appearances.

Kolek, meanwhile, appeared in 62 games last season.
