Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been dealt a blow as Gunners defender Piero Hincapie is expected to be out for between three and four weeks with an ankle injury, according to The Times.
The Ecuadorian star came off the bench in the closing stages of the 2-1 Premier League victory over Leeds United at Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
The Arsenal left-back ended the game with no issue but suffered an injury in a small-sided game in the warmdown after the game.
Hincapie could not walk off the pitch on his own and had to be carried off on the shoulders of Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Martin Zubimendi also sustained an ankle injury in a different incident afterwards.
However, the Spain international midfielder may return within a week.
Zubimendi and Hincapie were both missing earlier today when Arsenal held an open training session ahead of tomorrow’s Champions League’s league phase game against Lille.
Arteta will be unable to call upon the duo when the Ligue 1 club visit North London, but he has enough depth in both positions.
Riccardo Calafiori is likely to retain his place in the Gunners’ starting XI on Tuesday, while Arteta has Declan Rice, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Bruno Guimaraes as options to choose from in midfield.
