Celtics' Joe Mazzulla Shares 5-Word Take on Jayson Tatum, Paul George image
Joe Mazzulla is high on Jayson Tatum and Paul George's potential together.
On Monday, the Boston Celtics head coach was asked how he sees the two star forwards playing off each other.
His answer was simple.
"There’s no ceiling on that," Mazzulla said about Tatum and George.
Mazzulla then explained how Tatum and George's versatility can make life easier for each other.
"At the end of the day, our system and then their awareness and creativity — they're both guys that have the ability to play with and without the ball with their screening, their cutting, their spacing, their ability to shoot, to be able to handle the pick-and-roll.
"The more creative and aware they are to the defense and the ability to create 2-on-1s for each other, I think the easier they can make the game for each other."
Tatum and George offered an early glimpse of that potential in Saturday's preseason win over the Philadelphia 76ers. Neither played in Boston's preseason opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers, making Saturday their first opportunity to share the court in a game.
Tatum led the way with 23 points, five rebounds and four assists in the 144-106 win. George, meanwhile, finished his Celtics debut with 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and a game-high five steals.
George's steals in particular jumped out for a Celtics team that didn't generate many points off turnovers last season.
It's only the preseason, but the early returns on Tatum and George as a duo are encouraging.
