Xavier Hutchinson Breaks Silence on Texans Adding Marv to Their Receiving Corps 1
Xavier Hutchinson is taking a measured approach to the Houston Texans’ decision to bring in Marvin Harrison Jr. While the trade gives C.J. Stroud another established receiving option, Hutchinson is not getting caught up in what the move could mean for his own role.
The Texans acquired Harrison from the Arizona Cardinals as they look to turn their season around. Hutchinson welcomed the addition; however, he made it clear that his focus remains on his own work rather than the competition for targets.

Speaking about the Texans’ trade for Harrison, Hutchinson acknowledged what the former fourth overall pick can bring to the offense. The wide receiver then turned to his own situation, making it clear he is not going to spend time worrying about how the move affects his standing in the receiving group.
“I mean, it’s cool. Get another playmaker in there, someone who can stretch the field and make plays. So, obviously, we’re excited to have him in the building.
I’m running my own lane here. I can’t really worry about what’s going on outside of my lane. So I’m gonna control what I can control, and everything past that is everything past that.”

That response comes after Hutchinson delivered one of his better performances of the season. In the Texans’ 26-3 win over the Tennessee Titans, he caught four of five targets for 65 yards, leading the Texans in receiving yards. Through five games, the wide receiver has 16 receptions for 231 yards.
Harrison’s arrival will make the competition for opportunities tougher. Houston currently has Nico Collins as one of its starting wide receivers, and by bringing in yet another star receiver, Stroud gains another threat who can make plays deep downfield. Hutchinson will have to continue performing if he wishes to remain relevant.
The team will also have to decide on the future of Hutchinson. The sixth-round draft pick of the 2023 NFL Draft will turn into an unrestricted free agent in March. He made 35 catches for 428 yards and three touchdown receptions in the 2025 season.
At the moment, there are no signs that Houston is planning to trade Hutchinson. Speculation about a possible departure has emerged amid the team’s growing receiver depth and his contract situation, but it remains a possibility rather than a reported decision.
The Texans have more immediate concerns to address. After opening the season 0-4, they finally picked up their first win against the Titans and now face a tougher test against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6. David Montgomery is also considered week-to-week with a groin injury, leaving Woody Marks in line for a larger workload.
Harrison’s addition could help the Texans’ offense find another gear; however, it also puts every receiver’s role under greater scrutiny.
