KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - When the Kansas City Chiefs return to action after their early bye week, the offensive line is expected to be more complete than it was in Week 4.
On Monday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said starting left guard Kingsley Suamataia will return to his role after being benched in Week 4 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
“Yeah, he’ll be back in,” Reid said of Suamataia when asked of his expectations for the left guard for a Week 6 matchup between the undefeated Chiefs and winless Los Angeles Chargers.
Last week, Reid declined to share a reason for Suamataia’s benching against the Raiders. The third-year offensive lineman from BYU was replaced by Mike Caliendo for the entirety of the game.
“As far as the Kingsley thing goes, before you guys ask, that’s between Kingsley and I,” Reid said following the win over the Raiders. “We’ll figure it out and down the road we’ll be better as a team for it, and Kingsley will be better for it.”
Reid did not have an answer on whether Kansas City’s entire starting offensive line will be available, as the uncertainty around left tackle Josh Simmons remains.
Simmons was in the building during the bye week for rehab work on his back, Reid said.
“So we’ll see,” he said. “(Simmons and wide receiver Rashee Rice) will be back in tomorrow and have a better idea of what’s going on.”
The Chiefs and Chargers will kick off at 3:25 p.m. CT on Sunday in a game that can be seen live on KCTV5.
