**Mikel Arteta has hailed Max Dowman as a “special” talent after the Arsenal youngster was named on Lionel Messi’s list of future stars.**
Asked about Messi’s recognition of Dowman, Arteta said the endorsement carried particular weight given it had come from a player he regards as the greatest of all time.
“As close as Messi says,” Arteta said when asked how close he is to realising his full potential.
“If Messi, the best ever player, says that, his eyes are, I think, better than anybody else’s, so hopefully he’s right.”

Arteta believes Dowman has already shown signs of possessing something different despite still being at the start of his senior career.
“He’s got something special,” the Arsenal boss added.
“In the few appearances that he’s had, he’s already done remarkable things, and that’s someone who is touched by a special gift.
“He’s a joy to watch, the way he moves, his touch, the way he carries himself is just different.
“That’s what makes him unique.”
