Trabzonspor make decision on Mohamed Salah

Egypt captain Mohamed Salah ended his nine-year spell at Liverpool last summer before joining Turkish outfit Trabzonspor as a free agent.

The 34-year-old signed a two-year contract with the Super Lig side, beginning a new chapter away from England. He has already experienced a managerial change at Trabzonspor, with Fatih Tekke leaving following the club’s exit from the Europa League qualifiers.

The club subsequently appointed German manager Thomas Reis, who held a private meeting with Salah before his arrival was officially confirmed. Salah has made an impressive start to life in Turkey, registering seven goals and three assists in seven league appearances.

The Liverpool legend recently scored a hat-trick and provided an assist in Trabzonspor’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Turkish champions Galatasaray. He also registered an assist in their 3-0 win over Samsunspor. Now, Reis reportedly wants to further enhance Salah’s attacking output.

According to Turkish outlet Fotomac, the Trabzonspor boss is working on specific tactical plans designed to maximise the Salah’s individual qualities and increase his goal and assist tallies.

Salah’s contributions could prove crucial as Trabzonspor look to climb higher in the Super Lig standings. The forward is also reportedly determined to achieve something significant during his time in Turkey.

Trabzonspor are currently 5th with 13 points, just three points behind league leaders Galatasaray. Salah may be entering the twilight of his career, but he has shown he still has plenty to offer. He helped Egypt reach the knockout stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, recording one goal and two assists in five appearances.

His final season at Liverpool proved more challenging, with the Reds finishing fifth. Salah scored just 12 goals in all competitions after falling out of favour under Arne Slot.

That marked a significant decline from the previous campaign, when he scored 34 goals and provided 23 assists in all competitions to help Liverpool win the 2024/25 Premier League title. In total, he scored 257 goals for the Reds across all competitions.
