Yuki Kawamura waived by LA Clippers ahead of NBA season

The Los Angeles Clippers are parting ways with Yuki Kawamura, the team announced on X (formerly Twitter).

Assuming no other teams claim Kawamura through the waiver process, he is expected to join the G League's San Diego Clippers, an affiliate of the Clippers.

Clippers waive Yuki Kawamura

Following a 2026 NBA Summer League run with the Indiana Pacers, Yuki Kawamura signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Los Angeles Clippers last August.

Upon the deal made, Kawamura reunited with fellow Japanese star Rui Hachimura in LA, as he sought a potential roster spot in the Clippers' lineup.

Kawamura managed to play in the Clippers' two preseason games. After a brief four-minute exposure in the team's exhibition opener against the Golden State Warriors in Hawaii, he logged 10 points on 3-for-4 shooting with four assists and two steals across 14 minutes in LA's 114-106 loss against the Toronto Raptors this past weekend.

What's next for Yuki Kawamura?

If no other NBA team picks him up, Yuki Kawamura is expected to play for the San Diego Clippers, LA's G League affiliate.

Kawamura spent the past 2025-26 season with the Chicago Bulls on a two-way contract. He overcame an early-season blood clot in his lower leg and logged 18 games, averaging 3.4 points, 2.6 assists, and 1.8 rebounds in 11.6 minutes.

He was even more impressive in the NBA G League for the Windy City Bulls, with 18.7 points, 11.0 assists, and 5.0 rebounds in 11 games.

Kawamura began his NBA career when the Memphis Grizzlies signed him for the 2024-25 season following a sensational run with Japan during the Paris Summer Olympics.
