The Los Angeles Rams and Buffalo Bills delivered a Monday Night Football thriller, with Buffalo escaping with a 37-34 victory after a back-and-forth battle that came down to the final moments. The Rams had opportunities to pull out a statement win, but five pivotal plays helped determine the outcome.
Both offenses found ways to move the football, putting pressure on their opposing defenses to deliver in critical situations. For Los Angeles, the difference came down to… special teams. Surprise, surprise. Buffalo capitalized on two Rams missed field goals, turning key moments into a narrow road victory. From explosive offensive plays to crucial defensive sequences and the decisive finish, these five moments tell the story of how the Bills edged the Rams in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats until Tyler Bass’s field goal.
The Rams have not converted a 2 point conversion in three years. With a chance to go up 3 instead of 2, the Rams couldn’t even make a play for the endzone on their 2 point conversion as Stafford was sacked.
On the flip, the Bills got the ball back immediately. Went 80 yards on 5 plays. Josh Allen connected with Dalton Kincaid on the Bills 2 point try. With both conversions, it was a net loss of 4 points for the Rams.
After a James Cook fumble via a Nate Landman punchout, the Rams drove down to the Buffalo 35 yard line. On 1st & 10, the Rams threw the ball but Stafford’s throw was just high and wide of Kyren. Had they connected, there was not a Bills defender within sight and Kyren would have likely walked into the endzone and the Rams wouldn’t be 2-3…
You just knew that if the Rams attempted to a kick a field goal to win the game that something bad would likely happen. And it did. Mevis’s 48 yard field goal was blocked by Greg Rousseau and fell at the back of the endzone, shy of the uprights.
To be honest, I thought Mevis’s kick looked wide left off his foot… but I may be wrong.
The Rams defense was gashed from the run all night whether it was James Cook up the middle or Josh Allen via the scramble. On 2nd & 7 at their own 41, Josh Allen scrambled up the middle to LA’s 40 yard line. The first down guaranteed that the Rams were unlikely to get the ball back and that Buffalo was primed to set up a game winning field goal.
Special teams matter and Tyler Bass made his kick, unlike Harrison Mevis. Joe Brady was so confident and not ready to mess around that he sent Bass out there on 2nd & 10 for a 45 yard field goal. Bass drilled it and knew it after it left his foot. Ball game.
