Josh Allen can finally cross one stubborn item off his NFL bucket list. After years of overtime heartbreak, the Buffalo Bills quarterback earned his first career win in extra time on Monday night. He helped his team outlast the Los Angeles Rams, 37-34, in a thrilling Week 5 showdown at SoFi Stadium. Allen entered the contest with an 0-7 record in overtime games. That made Buffalo’s dramatic victory a particularly satisfying breakthrough. The Bills sealed it after a blocked Rams field-goal attempt set the stage for Tyler Bass to nail a 45-yard game-winner. Speaking with Scott Van Pelt on ESPN’s postgame broadcast, Allen acknowledged the relief of finally getting the job done.
"I haven't been a fan of overtime games in my career, so we get the first one. We'll take it."

“I haven't been a fan of overtime games in my career, so we get the first one. We'll take it,” Allen said with a smile.
Buffalo’s previous overtime victory came in December 2017, before Allen joined the franchise.
The win was another showcase of Allen’s ability to take over a game when the stakes rise. He finished with 331 total yards, including 121 rushing yards. Allen repeatedly stressed the Rams’ defense with his mobility and playmaking. His production helped Buffalo survive a chaotic fourth quarter and finish a back-and-forth shootout that appeared destined to go either way. The overtime victory also pushed the Bills to 4-1. It kept them firmly in the early-season AFC contender conversation.
Through five games in 2026, Allen has accounted for 15 total touchdowns. He has thrown for 1,249 yards and seven scores while adding eight rushing touchdowns. He remains the engine of head coach Joe Brady’s balanced offense. Allen has combined downfield aggression with dangerous goal-line running. Now that the overtime monkey is finally off his back, Allen and the Bills can turn their attention to sustaining their strong start.
