Sean McVay's Rams lost 37-34 against Buffalo on a night when lineman Alaric Jackson punched a Bills linebacker. Rams lineman Steve Avila spoke out on what his team must do moving forward, as did McVay.
McVay hinted at potentially big changes after the loss as told by ESPN's Sarah Barshop.
“Sean McVay said postgame he will be evaluating ‘everything' about the kicking unit,” Barshop wrote.
“I'm sick that we came up short and I'll be regretting kicking that and not having a better call to be able to go for it on third down and go to fourth or whatever it was. And that's on me,” McVay said.
The kick was attempted by Harrison Mevis from 48 yards out on fourth-and-five. It was blocked by Bills outside linebacker Greg Rousseau and led to Buffalo's game-winning field goal, a fitting but devastating end to a wild back-and-forth game that sent Rams fans to the exits disappointed, and McVay back to the drawing board.
McVay said he was “pissed” after the game, a sentiment felt by many fans of his team, and players like Jackson. McVay's team's passing game was productive and explosive enough to win, led by Puka Nacua's huge effort.
Stafford got a huge shout-out from Josh Allen after the game, but it did little to soak up the disappointment of a loss that sent McVay's team to under .500 on the season. October 18 brings a chance at redemption with the Cardinals headed to Los Angeles. Until then, the Rams will stew in their juices as they remember a huge prime time game that got away.
