The New York Jets stopped their three-game losing skid after beating the Cleveland Browns, 17-12, on Sunday. The Jets leaned on their defense, sacking Deshaun Watson eight times and preventing the Browns from establishing a rhythm.
Despite their meager output, Tim Patrick touted the Jets' offense, noting that they have “so much talent,” as reported by ESPN's Rich Cimini. Patrick added that they could be “scary” for the rest of the NFL since they have “many different ways” to win.
The 32-year-old wide receiver even made a bold comparison.
“(He) reminded that he played on the 2024 (Detroit) Lions. Patrick stuck to his guns and said what separates the Jets and the Lions is the Jets' TE (tight end) depth,” wrote Cimini on X.
“After a pause, he cracks, ‘That's going to backfire on me.'”
Patrick is in his first season with the Jets, signing a one-year, $2 million contract in March.
He had a one-year stint with the Lions in 2024. They averaged 33.2 points per game, which is tied for the 14th-highest scoring campaign in league history. Detroit finished with a 15-2 record, but was shocked by the Washington Commanders in the divisional round of the playoffs.
The Jets are averaging 18.6 points.
Still, Patrick doubled down on his strong assessment.
“We dress five tight ends every week. Not every team in the NFL can do that, and any one of those guys could be the guy. We have freaking (Kenyon) Sadiq. He runs 4.3, and he's not from this planet. So it's just one of those things where our tight end room is going to make us the offense that we're going to be,” added Patrick.
He missed the Jets' first four games due to a groin injury. He had two receptions for 36 yards against the Browns.
New York will visit the New England Patriots in Week 6.
