Everton could only draw 2-2 with Hull City on Sunday, leaving some fans frustrated. But the Toffees did manage to achieve something quite rare with the result.

David Moyes’ side took a point at the MKM Stadium, spurning a number of chances to get the win and also being uncharacteristically poor defensively at times.

Hull took the lead early in the second-half, before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall popped up with a header to equalise. Thierno Barry then put Everton in front, and the Toffees were poised to take all three points. But Mohamed Belloumi struck for the hosts after several errors on Everton’s part.

Hull being a newly promoted side made it a good opportunity for Everton to get three points. It wasn’t to be, but fans can still take comfort in one rare achievement.

Everton unbeaten in first six Premier League games since 2013/14

Although there is disappointment for many about the draw, Everton at least maintained their unbeaten start to the 2026/27 season.

And realistically, if fans were offered an unbeaten start after six games, many would probably have taken that.

With the draw, Everton are now unbeaten in six – and the last time this happened was in the 2013/14 season when Roberto Martinez had just succeeded David Moyes at Goodison Park. And that campaign didn’t turn out too badly at all.

The Toffees went on to finish fifth in the Premier League, winning a club-record 72 points. That meant Europa League football for the following season.

Martinez actually oversaw three wins and three draws in his first six games that season, meaning his Everton side had two more points on the board at the same stage. They were also one place higher in fourth and had scored one more goal, but had also conceded one more.

Much has been made of how small Everton’s squad is at the moment, so in theory it’s going to be harder for the current Toffees side to be as successful as the 2013/14 one. Martinez worked with a squad of 31 players that season, and used 25 players in the league.

In 2013/14, Everton’s first loss then came in the seventh game against Manchester City.

The current Everton now face a litmus test in the league. Up next is Chelsea at Hill Dickinson Stadium, and we’ve all seen how good they are in the final third under Xabi Alonso. They’ve scored 15 goals so far. But there is clear hope for Everton to get a result, with Chelsea’s 13 goals conceded the joint-worst in the Premier League up to now.

After Chelsea, it’s Arsenal at the Emirates, which could be the hardest game of the season to date. So undoubtedly, Everton’s unbeaten run is about to be sternly tested.

But Everton are now projected to finish on 60 points this season, which would likely mean European football if the club can get to that tally.
