Highly-rated Mexico midfielder Gilberto Mora is someone Liverpool are “definitely looking at”, according to a new claim from reliable journalist David Lynch.
A new midfielder has to be high up on the Reds’ list of priorities in 2027, even though Alexis Mac Allister has been much improved this season, and Ryan Gravenberch showed signs of his best returning against Manchester City, despite being sent off.
Mora is one player who has been linked with a move to Liverpool, following an impressive 2026 World Cup that saw him stand out as one of the best young players at the tournament.
In fact, journalist David Faitelson has claimed that the Reds have even made an offer for the 17-year-old Tijuana star, suggesting he is a leading target:
“I’ve been told in Tijuana that they received, through Gilberto Mora’s representative, Rafaela Pimenta, an offer from an English club, in this case Liverpool. It would be a historic figure, above $50m, for Xolos de Tijuana for Gilberto Mora, who turns 18 next week.”
Faitelson then added: “Do you think Rafael Marquez was going to risk him in the middle of negotiations, in a match that is physically demanding? Of course not. For me, Mora not playing on Saturday is an indication that the operation is moving forward and progressing.”
Now, Lynch has added to the rumours of Liverpool moving for Mora, telling Anfield Index [via Caught Offside] that he is on their list of potential targets, fitting the style of player they are looking for:
“Yeah, and a lot of links to Liverpool. I mean, he fits the profile of the sort of thing that Liverpool are definitely looking at.”
Gilberto Mora would be a major coup for Liverpool
Mora looked so at home on the big stage at the World Cup, looking 10 years older than he actually is, and the idea of him joining Liverpool is a mouthwatering prospect.
Some of Europe’s top clubs want the teenager, so signing him would be a massive coup for the Reds at a time when they need fresh legs in the middle of the park and more competition for places.
Mora would likely take some time to adjust to the pace and power of the Premier League, but if he reaches his potential, he could become a superstar at Anfield, having been lauded by coach Andre Jardine:
“I’ve dedicated my life to working with young talent in youth systems, and it’s rare to see a player like him. Mexico has a gem here, it’s not normal to see a player like that, he is an exceptional player. He possesses great character, is taking full advantage of his national team experience, and he’s undoubtedly special. I believe he embodies a bright future for Mexican soccer.”
Lynch’s update certainly doesn’t say that Liverpool will definitely move for Lynch, but he is clearly one of their main possible targets to add to their midfield, and they should pursue him hard into next year, whether that be in the January or summer transfer window.
