Chelsea are seriously weighing up another move for Barcelona defender Jules Kounde, according to journalist Matteo Moretto.

Speaking on the program La Pizarra (quotes via Sport), Moretto said that the Blues made enquiries for the Frenchman during the summer transfer window and they remain interested:

“There are several Premier League clubs very attentive to his situation. Chelsea already asked for him in the summer and would be willing to come back for him.”

Kounde has found himself behind Eric Garcia in the pecking order this season, prompting speculation about his future at the Camp Nou.

Who are the other Premier League clubs pursuing Kounde?

In a report based on their own sources last week, Sport said the Blues would be competing with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester CIty for the player’s signature.

Up until now, Kounde has shown no interest in leaving Barca. It should be noted that he effectively turned down a switch to Stamford Bridge four years ago in order to secure a move to the La Liga gaints.

However, if he can’t get his place back in the starting eleven, he may seriously consider his future, with a transfer in January or at the end of the season a possibility.

How much would Chelsea need to pay?

It is believed that Barcelona would demand at least €50m (£42m) for Kounde, which seems like a reasonable price. He would be cheaper than Bayer Leverkusen’s Jarell Quansah.

The Blues have been reluctant to spend big on players over the age of 25 in recent years (Kounde will be 28 next month), but that policy has shifted since the appointment of Xabi Alonso.

Considering the club’s defensive issues, adding another experienced head at the back would be a smart decision. It is definitely a story to keep a close eye on as we get closer to January.
