“I Don't Give A Damn What The Coach Is Saying”: Jayden Daniels Bashed By Super Bowl Winner Over OT Blunder Vs. Giants 1

A terrible clock-management mistake in overtime forced the Washington Commanders into an ugly 27-27 tie against the New York Giants on Sunday. The team rushed to the line but ran out of time before they could spike the ball. Quarterback Jayden Daniels was holding the ball, and the argument is that he should have thrown it away if no one was open, but he made a mistake that cost them the game.

Jayden Daniels Blasted By James Jones

With 12 seconds left and no timeouts in overtime, the Commanders were close enough for a 42-yard game-winner. Instead of throwing the ball away, Daniels scrambled and was tackled in bounds with eight seconds left. Time ran out before they could kick. Super Bowl winner and ex-wide receiver James Jones called the quarterback entirely responsible for the tie.

“There’s no quarterback that you played with that is not going to either spike that ball or throw that ball out of bounds just off of GP and understanding the football game and knowing the clock situation,” Jones said via Speakeasy.

“That’s all I’m saying. I don’t give a damn what the coach is saying in my ear. I see 15 seconds. I know we got to either clock it or throw the ball out of bounds. I can’t be running around scrambling and doing all that and then get up to the podium and say We from top down, boy, the ball in your hands, get the ball, spike it or throw it out. I could never imagine Aaron Rodgers doing this and how we would talk about Aaron Rodgers.”

“If this was Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts, Lord have mercy. We talking about the boy seat being hot, and he ain’t lost nothing. If this would have been Jalen Hurts, we’d be killing this boy right now. Now we’ll be killing Jalen Hurts. Even if it’s not me yelling, he is going to spike that damn ball or throw that ball away. It’s 15 seconds,” Jones added.

Right before that, the Commanders handed it off to running back Rachaad White to get the ball in the middle of the field. Head coach Dan Quinn said the play took way too long. According to him, they got greedy trying to get a shorter kick instead of just playing it safe to protect the field goal.

“With the team, I thought this was a hard-fought game to the wire, leaving tonight with a tie feels like a loss,” Quinn said. “And the last sequence, we throw it out of bounds, we clock it, you give yourself a chance to kick it. And we pride ourselves on those moments at the end of the game. And after the first down run, still trying to gain more for the kick. Right call is honestly, we can go clock it early and don’t put ourselves in that spot. And that is, that’s my responsibility, nobody else’s.”

Ultimately, Daniels has to own the failure to execute a basic rule of football for now.
