“You Can’t Extend Bo Nix”: Broncos QB Compared To “Bust” Cam Ward In Brutal Reality Check By Colin Cowherd 1

Colin Cowherd delivered a harsh reality check by comparing Broncos quarterback Bo Nix to “bust” Cam Ward. He believes that Nix’s performance has been alarmingly poor. According to him, Denver cannot afford to commit to an expensive, long-term extension for Nix right now.

Colin Cowherd Argued That Denver Broncos Cannot Offer Bo Nix an Extension

The Broncos pulled off a comeback win against the Chargers on Sunday. However, Cowherd is still questioning their offense under head coach Sean Payton and Nix. In 17 of his last 20 starts, Nix has not started the games well, especially in the opening quarters.

“This offense should not be below the Miami Dolphins,” Cowherd said. “So, you can’t extend Bo Nix. You let it play out, whatever. They won, but you let the season play out… Well, if you go to Bo Nix’s last 20 starts, he’s been awful in the first quarter and probably 17. So, I mean, they won, but right now his first-quarter passer rating is lower than Cam Ward. And everybody thinks Cam Ward is a bust.”

During Week 5, Nix threw for a season-low 123 yards, completing 16 of 27 passes with one touchdown to Courtland Sutton and zero interceptions for an 82.8 rating. He contributed 10 rushing yards on 4 carries but gave up a crucial lost fumble that resulted in a Chargers touchdown.

The Broncos’ offense ranks below the Dolphins. They gained fewer total yards than the Chargers, went a terrible 1-for-12 on third downs, and averaged a measly 3.9 yards per play.

“So, and it’s a very good offensive roster,” Cowherd said. “They’ve got a great interior lineman, a good left tackle, Courtland Sutton, Jaylen Waddle, [Marvin] Mims Jr. They got players that it’s not a player issue. It’s not a Davis Webb.”

“I don’t know what it is early. He always feels a little burdened and anxious with the first quarter, scripted play stuff. He’s better kind of running around and being loose later when he has to throw, and they’re trailing,” the veteran analyst added.

Cowherd thinks the Broncos can still make the playoffs as a wildcard, especially since the Chargers are messy and the Raiders are struggling to get going.
