If you managed to stay up late and watch a thriller Monday night game between the Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams, then you know it was well worth it (if you are a Bills fan, of course). The Bills are celebrating a close 37-34 win that went into overtime, but the Bills almost came out on the losing side.
In the second half, both offenses came alive and it was fireworks. The Bills took a 34-27 lead with less than two minutes left, but then the Rams managed to get into the endzone themselves with just 5 seconds left in regulation. The game eventually went into overtime, which ultimately became a rollercoaster of emotions for both teams.
Bills-Rams overtime became extremely emotional (for good and for worse)
The Rams won the coin toss, and deferred which gave the Bills the ball to begin overtime. After Josh Allen connected with Khalil Shakir for a 57-yard gain. running back James Cook fumbled a second time which was recovered by the Rams. The Bills had just gone from being in scoring position to potentially fumbling the game away.
The Rams officially had everything in their favor. They were driving the ball, and they managed to get into field goal range. With the Rams at the Bills' 30 yard line, they brought out their kicker, Harrison Mevis, to win the game for them...and then Greg Rousseau appeared.
Greg Rousseau made the play of the game for Bills
Mevis attempted a 48-yard kick, but Rousseau came up with a clutch block and tipped the ball and it fell short of making the uprights. The ball went back to Josh Allen and the Buffalo offense, and they managed to push the ball down the field themselves to give Tyler Bass the chance to win it for Buffalo. Bass converted from 45 yards out, and the Bills left SoFi Stadium with the close win.
Rousseau already has 6 sacks on the season, which is the second most in the NFL. While this is the second consecutive game without a sack, this play by Rousseau means so much more because it was the game-changing play that helped the Bills get to 4-1 on the season.
With this play, Rousseau showed the Bills that no matter what position he is in, he can be counted on make a huge play when it matters the most. Without Rousseau's block, who knows if the Bills would have survived this game. Luckily, we won't need to find out and now the Bills will head to Las Vegas with momentum.
