An independent commission published its opinion on September 29, finding Manchester City guilty on 114 of 115 charges of breaching the Premier League's financial rules between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 campaigns.

The schemes were found to have artificially inflated revenues and reduced costs by more than £900 million, and Premier League chief executive Richard Masters described the decision as the most significant in the competition's history.

The club responded by declaring they are innocent and possess "a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence", and lodged a comprehensive appeal at 7pm on October 1. The verdict landed during the international break, when the squad was dispersed across different national teams.

We have full confidence in the club, we trust the club and we love to win: Man City captain Dias

Speaking in a press conference ahead of Manchester City's clash of the titans with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night, Dias said: "Yes, there's a lot of noise, and it's almost impossible to avoid seeing something - even us, being as private as we can be, and doing just our own lives. On your phone it's impossible to avoid everything.

"But I feel like we're all so very good at focussing ourselves on our job, doing it right, making the most of it, being happy every time we come to work, and our minds are very much there, and only there.

"It's the things we can control, the things we've always been doing, and enjoying so much! We have full confidence on the club, we trust the club, and we love to win!"

Dias then described how the Manchester City squad responded when the independent commission published their verdict on September 29 broke. "When it broke, we obviously felt like we should have a conversation as soon as we got back," the Portugal international added.

"We did, just for everyone to be on the same page. And to obviously be clear about our peace of mind, and we moved on from there.

"It happened in a moment where we were not together, but quickly we reached out to eachother and obviously we quickly found calm and we progressed forward."

On the importance of his role as captain particularly given the backdrop of the verdict and its significance in English football, the 29-year-old said: "Specifically for what's happening, I would say just as any other year, any other captain, any other responsibility because to be the captain of your team it's to always be there for whatever is needed.

"And this time, it's maybe a different challenge - well, not different because it's happened in the past already. And I'm here for it, and so will be the other three captains, and so will be the rest of the team. We will defend the club, we will fight for it, and we trust the club!"

This is a developing story. More to follow.
