Mohamed Salah has made an immediate impact in Turkey since leaving Liverpool this summer. He joined Trabzonspor on a free transfer and signed a two-year contract after nine years at Anfield.
He made his debut as a 58th-minute substitute in a 1-1 draw with Kasimpasa on August 15, he scored twice in a 2-1 win over Istanbul Basaksehir in his first league start.
On September 19, Salah scored in the 4th, 44th and 80th minutes of a 4-0 home win over defending champions Galatasaray. He also set up Noah Saviolo’s goal.
It was Trabzonspor’s first match under new head coach Thomas Reis and Galatasaray’s first league defeat of the season.
Salah reached a new milestone on Saturday in Trabzonspor’s 3-0 victory over Samsunspor.
The Egyptian King provided the assist for Trabzonspor’s third goal against Samsunspor. It came in the 40th minute, when he played a pass behind the Samsunspor defence and Franculino finished.
Ernest Muci and Chibuike Nwaiwu had scored earlier in the first half, with Nwaiwu’s goal coming in the 38th minute.
Trabzonspor finished the match with 10 men after Melih Kabasakal was sent off in the 43rd minute. Paul Onuachu replaced Salah in the 77th minute.
The win lifted the club to 13 points, while Samsunspor stayed on four.
The assist also set a record. According to Al Jazeera, Salah became the first player with 10 goal contributions in his first seven Super Lig games for Trabzonspor, a record for any player in the league.
His tally stands at seven goals and three assists in seven league games.
The league form contrasts with Trabzonspor’s European campaign. They lost 1-0 at home and 4-0 in Budapest to Ferencvaros in the Europa League play-off, a 5-0 aggregate defeat that sent them into the Conference League.
Trabzonspor visit KuPS Kuopio in that competition on Thursday. They then host Besiktas in the Super Lig on Monday, October 19.
