Frenkie de Jong has reportedly been tested as a center-back in training by Hansi Flick as the Barcelona midfielder inches closer to a return to first-team action after a knee injury.
It’s a position De Jong has played before and may well play again for Barca, especially as the club have a wealth of options in midfield but are arguably a little short in central defence.
Flick has made a habit of reinventing players during his time at Barcelona. Raphinha has been banging in the goals as a No. 9, Xavi Espart has shone at left-back, Eric Garcia is now first choice at right-back, while Gerard Martin has switched successfully from full-back into central defence.
