Joao Pedro is proving that he can be a superstar in this league, and some old Enzo Maresca quotes are looking pretty foolish.

There are plenty of reasons for Chelsea fans to not like Enzo Maresca, and we can’t wait for our games against Manchester City later this season.
The coach’s words about Joao Pedro last season are now being thrown back at him as proof that he was never going to get the best out of the Brazilian. Maresca famous said that, for all his qualities, JP is “not a number nine that is going to score 20 goals each year.”
Maresca’s rather slow style of possession football just didn’t suit the rangy forward as much as Alonso’s more aggressive style. The former Brighton man has gone up levels since January, when Maresca walked out of Chelsea.

Well, JP looked better under Liam Rosenior than under Enzo Maresca. Now he’s looked even better under Xabi Alonso than under Rosenior.
20 goals in a season now looks like light work for him. He’s got 5 in 5 games – he will actually be very disappointed if he doesn’t score more than 20 in the league this season, assuming he avoids injury.
Let’s just hope he manages to get a couple of them against Maresca’s Man City when we play them later in the season…
