Jalyx Hunt injury update: Eagles pass rusher not expected to play in Week 6

While **[the Philadelphia Eagles are potentially expecting some key players to return from injury](/news/186701/eagles-injury-news-devonta-smith-and-saquon-barkley-have-a-shot-to-return-against-the-panthers)** this week, it sounds like they’ll be without at least one of their regular defensive starters against the Carolina Panthers.

Jalyx Hunt is not expected to suit up against in Week 6 after suffering ankle/knee injuries on the final play of the second quarter during the Eagles’ loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Vic Fangio had the following to say about Hunt on Tuesday morning:

> “I think it’ll be pretty miraculous for Jalyx to play this week.”

>

> “But he’s the kinda guy who will be pushing the envelope and making the medical people clear him. He’s not going to be one of those guys who’s hesitant to come back.”

Sounds like he’ll avoid going on injured reserve, at least?

Hunt, an offseason standout who’s yet to log a sack in 2026, leads the Eagles in quarterback hits with four. The Eagles’ pass rush as a whole has been lacking; Philadelphia ranks tied for the fourth-fewest sacks per game (1.2) this season.

With Hunt expected not to play, the Eagles have four edge rushers who might suit up on Sunday: Jonathan Greenard, Nolan Smith, Arnold Ebiketie, and A.J. Epenesa. (The team also has Keyshawn James-Newby, Mason Reiger, and Joshua Weru on the practice squad.)

It’s not yet clear if Greenard will be able to play after suffering an ankle injury in Week 4 that caused him to miss Week 5. He didn’t practice last week but he was ruled questionable and seemed to be a game-time decision before the team held him out. Fangio expressed hope that Greenard could be available but said the team will have to see how the veteran handles practice this week.

Getting Greenard back would be ideal. If he’s not able to suit up, the Eagles are looking thin with Smith, Ebiketie, and Epenesa as their top trio. All of those players have game experience and it’s not like Fangio hasn’t used a three-man rotation before. But this team could really afford a spark on the edge that Greenard might be able to provide.
