CINCINNATI -- A key Cincinnati Bengals passing option is likely out for the season.
Tight end Tanner Hudson suffered a torn pectoral in last Sunday’s win over the Miami Dolphins, his agent told ESPN on Tuesday. The injury is expected to cause him to miss the remainder of the season.
Hudson, 31, suffered the injury while trying to make a tackle on special teams in Cincinnati’s 31-24 road victory on Week 5. Earlier in the game, he had three catches for 14 yards and a touchdown reception, which prompted praise from Bengals coach Zac Taylor.
“He’s just Mr. Dependable,” Taylor said Sunday. “Whether he’s on the practice squad, whether he’s on the roster, he’s going to show up. He’s been who we thought he was.”
Taylor revealed the injury on Monday and said the team was gathering more information to determine whether or not Hudson would be placed on injured reserve.
Hudson, an eighth-year player out of Southern Arkansas, was a surprise cut when the team trimmed the roster to 53 players. He was re-signed to the practice squad and elevated for Weeks 1 and 3.
Hudson was signed to the active roster on Sept. 29, when the Bengals placed cornerback Jalen Davis on injured reserve and waived Ke’Shawn Williams, who was later re-signed to the practice squad.
Hudson has spent the past four seasons with the Bengals. In 42 appearances with the club, he has had 84 catches for 707 yards and five touchdowns.
Cincinnati’s other reserve tight end options include Erick All Jr. and Jack Endries, a seventh-round pick in this year’s draft who has been inactive in three of the team’s five games this season.
