New concerning details of Kristaps Porzingis' Warriors absence revealed

The Golden State Warriors remain without clear answers on center Kristaps Porzingis, with the team reportedly unsure as of October 11 where he was, what exactly he has been dealing with medically, or when he might return to the court, according to Danny Emerman of The San Francisco Standard.

Porzingis did not travel with Golden State on its trip to Hawaii after general manager Mike Dunleavy announced that the veteran big man would be out indefinitely.

"The Warriors say they don't know where Kristaps Porzingis is, exactly what he's dealing with health-wise, or when he might be able to return to the court," Emerman reported on Oct. 11.

According to the report, Golden State had been encouraged by Porzingis' condition when he arrived at the facility before training camp, only for the latest health issue to emerge afterward.

Porzingis' POTS diagnosis remains a source of uncertainty

Porzingis was diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) after the 2024-25 season.

Golden State was aware of the diagnosis when it signed Porzingis to a two-year, $40 million contract during the offseason.

Only $24 million of the deal is guaranteed, including $3 million guaranteed for 2027-28, and the contract is already trade-eligible.

Warriors again dealing with Porzingis availability questions

This is not the first time Golden State has dealt with uncertainty surrounding Porzingis.

The Warriors experienced similar issues after acquiring him at last season's trade deadline, just as the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks had dealt with periods of unclear availability during his time with those teams.

Porzingis has appeared in only 87 of a possible 177 games over the past two seasons, including the playoffs, and has played at least 65 games just once since the start of the 2020-21 campaign.

His most recent media availability came on April 15. He did not participate in exit interviews and has not spoken publicly with reporters since.

The Warriors, meanwhile, could begin the 2026-27 regular season with Porzingis, Jimmy Butler, and Moses Moody all unavailable, leaving approximately $90 million in salary sidelined.
