Liverpool are looking to bounce back from their weekend defeat to Manchester City when they travel to Austria to face LASK in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
After beating La Liga side Atletico Madrid on matchday 1, another victory would put the Reds in a strong position in the competition.
However, Andoni Iraola has left Alexander Isak, Cody Gakpo and Dominik Szoboszlai at home, meaning several youngsters have travelled with the squad.
Liverpool are already without long-term absentees Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni, although the Italian defender is closing in on a return to team training after more than a year out with an ACL injury.
The Reds’ options will be further depleted in Austria, with Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo both ineligible after being left out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad.
With just three days between fixtures, Iraola has hinted at rotating his starting XI to keep players fresh and build momentum.
Iraola said: “Tomorrow is a game that we want to win, we need to win. We want to start this competition strongly. We have already the first win and we want to win the second one, because it’s always difficult to win games in this competition.
“But it’s true that sometimes because of freshness reasons, because of some niggles, I think it’s going to be difficult to put exactly the same starting XI tomorrow.”
He added: “You don’t have a lot of time to train. You try to prepare the games now a lot of times just with the videos and the tactics boards, just a little bit outside.
“You have to prioritise the freshness of the players. “Especially now we are playing four games in 10 days, it’s keeping all the legs, all the energy in the games.
“But in cases like Bradley [Barcola] especially, who has been probably the last one to arrive, the more he plays and the more he gets connections with the ones around him, the better he will become.”
Liverpool boast an impressive record against Austrian opposition, having lost just once in 10 meetings while winning eight in the process. The Reds have also never lost a competitive match on Austrian soil, recording four victories and one draw.
