Last week, it was reported that Everton had been put up for a full sale by The Friedkin Group – and fan group the 1878s have now shared plans for the Carabao Cup game with Newcastle United later this month.

Just days after the summer transfer window closed, reports surfaced that The Friedkin Group were looking for more investors at the club, leading to speculation that a full sale would eventually be explored.

Just weeks later, that plan is now official, with Everton releasing a statement last week. Part of the statement read: “The immediate priority was to provide the stability, investment and support needed to secure the Club’s future, including helping to bring the long-promised stadium to completion for its deserving supporters.

“With that foundation now safely in place, the time is right to consider the next chapter for Everton. We will only entertain interest from parties who we strongly believe will be the right stewards to take the Club forward and build on the momentum that has been established.”

What is your message to The Friedkin Group as they put the club up for sale? 😳

Well said Terry how's the golf Going

The problem is if you are the owners of a football club you have to keep a eye on your bank account

Just wonder if any of them could break into one of the top spots this season. Would really love to see that. 👍

1878s planning display for Everton vs Newcastle

The news has been welcomed by a large section of the fanbase, with many feeling TFG’s hearts are not truly in it. And supporter group The 1878s have now made public some plans they have for the game with Newcastle.

They took to X earlier today to announce that they will be organising a flag display for the game on October 29 at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

They said: “We are pleased that the owners are wanting to sell the club, which will hopefully allow us to progress on the pitch & match our fans’ ambitions in the future with more investment from new owners.

“With the pending sale of our club, being united as fans along with our players and management is massively important to help the team in these uncertain times. It’s been far too long since our club won silverware and as time goes on each cup game feels even more important.”

📢 Flag display v Newcastle 📢 Before our Carabao Cup game v Newcastle United we will be doing a flag display. It’s been far too long since our club won silverware and as time goes on each cup game feels even more important. We would love to help push the lads a step closer and into, potentially our first cup quarter final at our new home. Let’s bring our voices from the off & make it a loud one under the lights. They went on to call on fellow fans to create a boisterous atmosphere to hopefully inspire the players to a first Carabao Cup quarter-final for three seasons, and potentially a first cup quarter-final, period, at Hill Dickinson.

It is unclear, as yet, what will specifically be on the flags. But one would imagine the message will reflect what the group have said in their statement, and the feeling of many Evertonians towards the owners.

There has been a positive reception to the plan from some on X already, with The 1878s historically very good at creating these large-scale displays that help to drum up a great atmosphere.

The group put out a scathing statement after transfer deadline day to say that they would be stepping back from organising displays in a show of defiance against the ownership model, calling the way the squad was left short as ‘full-on gross negligence’.

We don’t yet know if this display against Newcastle will be more anti-TFG or more pro-Everton in terms of tone, but either way, there will be some powerful scenes at Hill Dickinson.
