It was a case of better late than never today as Landon Emenalo trained with Celtic at Lennoxtown for the first time after signing on a season long loan deal from Chelsea at the end of the summer transfer window…

Martin O’Neill know that the left-back was carrying an injury and revealed that he was prepared to wait for Emenalo to get over that before joining up with the Celtic squad, and that is exactly what happened today.
As well as his first training session, there was the welcome to Celtic video with the club’s in-house media and also the mandatory photo session that every new player gets.
Landon Emenalo will now provide cover for Kieran Tierney and this will allow Liam Scales in particular to concentrate on his central defensive role in the team. KT simply can’t be expected to play every minute and if it’s anything like last season the 18 year-old will see plenty of minutes in his time wearing the Hoops.
Back at the start of September, Martin O’Neill outlined his own thoughts on the Chelsea youngster.

“Landon is a very good player we have followed for some time, and he will give us some real quality,” the Celtic manager said.
“He has many attributes which I think can benefit us. He is very quick and athletic but also very composed on the ball and while he can defend, he certainly gets up the pitch into attacking positions too.
***“I know he has a real desire to do well for us, and I am sure he will as he adds strong competition and support on our left side.*”

Landon Emenalo spent time in Monaco and Chelsea’s academy systems, has been a key player in Chelsea’s Under-21s team and has also featured in first-team squads for the Stamford Bridge outfit..
Speaking at Celtic Park today, Landon Emenalo told Celtic TV: “It’s really an honour to be here, especially after all this time. It felt good to train today and meet the guys. It’s a good group. So I can’t wait to get started.

“Obviously, I know Shim from Chelsea, so it’s nice to know someone here, but they’ve all welcomed me in, so it’s been pretty easy to join.

“Since he’s joined, I’ve been watching, been rooting for him, obviously. I think he’s done well, and I’ve known him since under-15s.
“Just looking out and seeing the stadium, it’s crazy. It’s about 60,000. I can’t wait to get out there and hear them.”
