Tottenham Hotspur spent big in the summer to bolster the squad, with big money spent on Savio and Omar Marmoush, while Mykhailo Mudryk also arrived on a season-long loan. However, neither of them have managed to make any goal contribution in the Premier League thus far.
Following Richarlison’s exclusion from the Premier League squad, Dominic Solanke has been Roberto De Zerbi’s first-choice striker this season. The 29-year-old hasn’t looked at his best, struggling with rhythm and confidence due to a disrupted pre-season tour. After missing a few clear-cut opportunities, he managed to bury the equaliser against Manchester United in stoppage time.
While Solanke helped Spurs salvage a point at Old Trafford, it is very clear by now that the England international cannot be relied upon for regular supply of goals. No wonder former scout Mick Brown has revealed that the Lilywhites are accelerating plans to sign a replacement for Solanke in the winter transfer window.
Tottenham keeping close tabs on Bayer Leverkusen
According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham are one of the Premier League clubs keen on signing Bayer Leverkusen sensation Christian Kofane, who plays a bit like Hugo Ekitike. Aston Villa and Everton are also keeping close watch on the youngster’s exploits in the Bundesliga.
Christian Kofane moved to Bayer Leverkusen from Albacete in the summer of 2025, and he enjoyed a solid debut season in German football. The Cameroonian international netted seven goals in 44 appearances across all competitions, as Bayer Leverkusen finished sixth in the Bundesliga.
The young forward has started the 2026/27 campaign well, netting twice in four league outings. Currently, he is out with a hamstring injury. The report adds that Bayer Leverkusen are reluctant to part ways with Kofane mid-season amid rising interest in his services.
Should Spurs test Bayer Leverkusen’s resolve for Kofane?
Tottenham desperately need forwards who can put the ball in the back of the net, with both Marmoush and Solanke struggling to deliver the goods. For now, De Zerbi needs to find a solution to his team’s goalscoring woes, but come January, he must push the board to test Leverkusen’s resolve for Kofane.
Kofane is an extremely talented forward, capable of playing centrally and out wide, and his mix of speed, physicality and directness could make him a strong long-term investment for the Lilywhites. At 20, the Cameroonian is still raw in certain aspects of his game, but under De Zerbi’s watchful guidance, he’ll have the potential to develop.
As Everton are planning to resurrect their interest in him, Spurs must be proactive in case they plan to sign Kofane.
