Everton are up for full sale, and all eyes are on who will acquire the club from The Friedkin Group.

The US owners are looking to move on after only a couple of years, with a lot of supporters welcoming the news. Plenty have been frustrated with their lack of ambition and visibility, although there has been acknowledgment of their stabilisation of the club.

Of course, Everton potentially changing owners raises questions about the future of David Moyes, whose contract is up at the end of the season.

But a new report from TEAMtalk today is suggesting this could indeed be his last season in charge at Everton, with Eddie Howe linked with a move to Hill Dickinson Stadium.

What is your message to The Friedkin Group as they put the club up for sale? 😳

Well said Terry how's the golf Going

The problem is if you are the owners of a football club you have to keep a eye on your bank account

Just wonder if any of them could break into one of the top spots this season. Would really love to see that. 👍

Eddie Howe would be an amazing coup by Everton

TEAMtalk say in their report that Amanda Staveley and her PCP Capital Partners consortium ‘have held informal discussions regarding a potential takeover’. And if they were to lodge a formal bid, then they would move ‘decisively’ for Howe.

Of course, when Staveley first arrived at Newcastle in late 2021, Howe was instantly brought in to replace Steve Bruce.

Howe is said to regard Everton as ‘an attractive project he would be willing to discuss, given the club’s size, fanbase and the prospect of new investment’.

It’s all ifs, buts and maybes at this stage but if Howe did ultimately succeed Moyes as manager, then that would really be a statement of intent by Everton.

It kind of petered out for him at the end at Newcastle, but there is no denying what a remarkably successful appointment he was for the Magpies, taking them out of mediocrity and getting them into the Champions League twice, as well as delivering Newcastle’s first domestic trophy in 70 years.

First and foremost, Everton fans could expect a real shift in the style of football if Howe came in. We have all seen Moyes’ pragmatic approach, which has been effective but not so pleasing on the eye at times. Potentially, the shackles would be released under Howe, who is known to favour dynamic, front-foot football.

He is also proven in terms of player development. So many players at Newcastle thrived under his management, with Joelinton in particular a massive success story, going from misfiring striker to midfield general. He also got a lot out of players who didn’t have the greatest reputations at first, like Jacob Murphy, Miguel Almiron and Joe Willock. And he created superstars like Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak.

Eddie Howe’s record as Newcastle manager

Games managed – 231

Wins – 116

Draws – 43

Losses – 72

Goals scored – 417

Goals conceded – 311

PL points per game -1.69

Trophies 1

There are a lot of promising young players at Everton at the moment. Howe is not massively known for leaning on youth, but there have been some good examples of youngsters getting chances from him, such as Lewis Miley.

And there’s also the notion that Howe would just be a breath of fresh air in terms of instilling a more ambitious culture at the club. He’s been there and done it with Newcastle, and Everton want that same kind of journey. Howe is also a boyhood Evertonian, further suggesting he’d be an ideal fit.

So if Moyes is to move on in 2027 – and there have been new links to Celtic this week – then hopefully Howe would indeed be game to replace the Scot and take on what would be an exciting project.
