Liverpool have been linked with a move for exciting young Fulham midfielder Josh King, and now journalist Pete O’Rourke has provided a key new update.

The 19-year-old is arguably one of the most highly-rated teenagers in the Premier League currently, with Fulham manager and former Reds right-back Alvaro Arbeloa hailing him:

“I have been talking all summer with Josh King. What a player you have here. Amazing. What a player. Unbelievablee. I knew his talent. But with talent and with quality for these types of players, it is not enough. They need to make numbers. Like Josh, like Oscar [Bobb], like Cesar [Palacios], like Kevin. We have lots of players with a lot of talent, but they need to score goals.”

King is a wanted man, with Liverpool rumoured to be among his admirers, but speaking to Football Insider, O’Rourke said that Fulham will look to hold firm in the January transfer window.

“Josh King will be on the radar for a number of clubs because of his performances for Fulham so far this season. There’s going to be interest from some top clubs as well, but Fulham are not planning for any early departure for Josh King because of how important he is for them.

“He is still under contract until 2029 and obviously they’ll want to keep him, especially if they find themselves involved in a relegation fight this season. They’ll want to keep hold of their best players to give them the best chance of staying in the Premier League, so it’s going to cost a huge fee to lure him away from Fulham.

“I think he’s probably just on the fringes of that England squad as well so I think he’s in the thoughts of Thomas Tuchel as well and that just shows how well he’s done.”

Josh King: A superb future option for Liverpool

King is a player with so much ability and potential, becoming a key man for Fulham at the age of just 19, scoring twice in six Premier League appearances so far this season.

The £50.6m-rated star has been capped 47 times by England across six different youth age groups, including nine appearances for the Under-21s already, and Huw Jennings, the Cottagers’ head of football development, has waxed lyrical over him, saying:

“He was ready to train with the first team at 16, but wasn’t ready to play consistently until a bit later, and everyone showed the right level of patience in order to afford him that opportunity to physically mature, and his parents were pivotal in supporting him and the club with that.

“What you see is a player who has got exceptional capacity to play in the future. He’s already two steps ahead of you by the time you have got in your stride. I enjoy watching the most balletic player in a club side I have been associated with.”

For now, it looks as though Fulham won’t entertain any offers for King, but Liverpool should continue to be front and centre for him, should he suddenly become available.
