Liverpool have reportedly entered the race for Barcelona’s Jules Kounde, setting up a transfer tussle with Chelsea for the France international, according to Fichajes.
Why Liverpool Need a Right-Back
Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester City at Anfield ended their unbeaten Premier League start, with Haaland, Doku and Cherki all on target. Ryan Gravenberch’s red card proved pivotal, yet Doku’s pace also exposed Ronald Araujo at right-back.
Jeremie Frimpong has also struggled to impress, leaving Arne Slot’s successor Andoni Iraola searching for a long-term option in that position.
Kounde’s Barcelona Situation
Transfermarkt values the defender at £59 million. With his regular place at Camp Nou now lost, Barcelona could be open to selling him next year. Chelsea remain interested, so Liverpool face competition, although Champions League football and guaranteed minutes might sway the player.
What Kounde Would Offer Anfield
Kounde brings recovery pace, strong one-on-one defending and intelligent positioning. On the ball, he is composed and accurate with his passing. Naturally a centre-back, he could also cover in central defence, an area where Liverpool lack depth.
Our Opinion
Kounde looks a smart fit for Liverpool’s needs. The key question is timing: a January move is possible, though waiting until summer might allow the Reds to weigh up Araujo’s permanent signing too. Either way, versatility makes him an appealing target.
