Noni Madueke has been subjected to criticism for his performance in Arsenal’s 3-0 UEFA Champions League win over LOSC Lille at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday.

Madueke, who was handed his first UEFA Champions League start of the campaign, offered some attacking threat but was largely inconsistent on the night.

It was not a particularly memorable outing for the England international, whose performance was marred by overhit crosses and botched final balls.

In his 65-minute appearance, Madueke lost possession 21 times and completed only one of the three dribbles he attempted.

After the match, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam the 24-year-old for his overall display.

One wrote:

“Madueke has mastered the art to look promising with every moment he has the ball but the output is more often poor than better. I’m tired of witnessing this.”

Another tweeted:

“Please Arsenal, stop charging me to watch Madueke and Gyokeres.”

A third remarked:

“Max Dowman should take all of Madueke’s minutes moving forward since Madueke isn’t serious with his career.”

“Took Saka two minutes to make Madueke look like a fool,” added another.

Arsenal took the lead through Timber in the 64th minute, with Madueke providing the assist.

Three minutes later, Eberechi Eze doubled the lead while Bukayo Saka added a third in the 71st minute.

Lille’s failure to register a shot on target throughout the 90 minutes meant the Gunners secured a clean-sheet victory in front of their crowd.

“We gave simple things away” – Arteta on Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Lille

Speaking after the match, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta reflected on a frustrating first half against Lille, saying his team made many mistakes but improved after addressing the issues.

“We had to increase the technical level, teams are really well organised at this level,” Arteta told TNT Sports. “We gave simple things away - bad touches, mis-timed things, when we sent balls into the box it was into the wrong areas and we get caught. Once we did that better we started to play in the opposition box and with the quality we have they made a difference.”

The result means the Gunners are still unbeaten this season and sit third in the standings of the Champions League group phase.
