NBA insider drops massive verdict on Kyrie Irving trade situation for Dallas

The Dallas Mavericks have taken a firm stance on keeping Kyrie Irving. However, that commitment will continue to be monitored once the new season begins.

NBA insider Jake Fischer is convinced Irving will be a key trade candidate for many teams before the deadline.

"I still believe that Kyrie Irving is someone we are going to talking about through the February 11th trade deadline as a trade target for rival teams," Fischer said on Bleacher Report.

"He just does not fit the timeline, he is almost a decade and a half older than Cooper Flagg. He himself is going into the end of a very lucrative contract where he’s want to get paid."

Will Mavs soon consider Kyrie Irving trade?

The Dallas Mavericks have blocked the noise throughout the year around Kyrie Irving.

Irving, who is now fully healed after missing the entire 2025-26 season to recover from his torn ACL, has been subjected to multiple trade rumors and speculation in the wake of the franchise's full focus on building around Cooper Flagg.

The Mavs, however, are deflecting the possibility that they will move Irving, with team president Masai Ujiri sending a recent bold message.

Irving is playing under a three-year, $118.5 million extension with the Mavs, with 2027-28 being a player option.

For Fischer, once Irving successfully bounces back from his torn ACL, contending teams will strongly pursue the future Hall of Famer for potential deals.

"If he comes back healthy for a significant sample size that shows every other team around the NBA that he is still capable of being an All-Star talent and a playoff game-changer especially as a halfcourt ball-handling creator, the Mavs, I believe, are going to get trade offers that ultimately they are not going to be able to refuse," the insider claimed.

"They can keep saying right now and projecting publicly and saying it behind the scenes that they are not interested in moving him, but things do change very very quickly in the NBA."
