Three stats from Arsenal's first two Champions League games that prove Gunners are on another level

Arsenal picked up a comfortable 3-0 win over Lille in the Champions League.

The Gunners have been extremely dominant in the league phase of the competition since their return, and they showed why they are a level above most sides on Tuesday night.

After a cagey first half, Arsenal smashed three goals in the space of seven minutes against a Lille side who looked lost in that period. They just didn’t know what to do.

That makes it two wins from two for the Premier League winners in the Champions League so far this season, and some of the underlying stats behind those victories are very impressive.

Three incredible stats from Arsenal’s first two Champions League games

Winning games in the Champions League is hard enough, but dominating teams on a consistent basis is even more difficult.

However, Arsenal seem to have made a habit of that, especially in the league phase. The Gunners have won each of their last 14 fixtures in this stage of the competition, which is an outrageous record.

Focusing on just this season, Arsenal secured a 1-0 win over Napoli away from home in their first game, and they breezed past Lille in their second fixture.

If you combine those two games together, Mikel Arteta’s men registered these three insane stats:

Arsenal’s 1-0 win against Napoli seemed like a tight affair, but the Gunners absolutely battered them in that game and could’ve easily scored four or five goals. Against Lille, the Gunners found the net three times, and again, they could’ve scored more.

The common theme across both games, however, was that neither Lille nor Napoli ever looked like they were going to score a goal. They barely even had meaningful touches in Arsenal’s box.

This shows incredible dominance in every phase of the game by the Gunners. The two sides they have faced are good teams playing in big leagues, but they still made the fixtures look easy.

That shows Arsenal are on a different level, and if they can keep everyone fit, there’s no reason why they cannot go all the way in the Champions League this season.
