Owen Backs “Top Class” Liverpool Star To Come Good After 6 Appearances Without A Goal

Ex-Liverpool striker Michael Owen claims it may only “take one goal” to see the best of Bradley Barcola.

The £123m summer signing has not scored or provided an assist in his first 6 appearances for the Reds, and when asked by Tribal Football what has to change for the Frenchman to get on the scoresheet, Owen said:

“It’s a big challenge; it’s important now for Iraola to get the best out of these players, as we know they can do it as they have before at previous clubs. So, we have to be patient, but Liverpool do need to improve their attacking threat.”

“It may just take one goal, but it’s important for the team to do more in the attacking front. You can give Barcola all the confidence in the world, but he is top class; we’ve seen him before, so if others can also step up around him, it can help him and the team too.”

The Liverpool star has spoken about the intensity of the Premier League

The 24-year-old spoke before the defeat to Manchester City about the challenges he is facing adapting to English football.

Barcola commented on the intensity being “so high” that it has left him cramping at the end of games. The forward claims he wants to embrace the physicality of the Premier League, but as we saw at the weekend, he is still considerably off the pace.

Wirtz’s problems have taken the spotlight off Barcola

Florian Wirtz‘s continued struggles have allowed the Frenchman an easier bedding-in period than he would have got otherwise. There would have been more talk about his lack of goals, especially.

Barcola is understandably under less scrutiny as he has been at the club for a much shorter time than Wirtz, who already has one season under his belt.

For many, the German’s performance against City was the last straw, and fans are calling for Dominik Szoboszlai to come into the side as the no.10, restoring the midfield that won the Premier League title in 2025.
