The heartbreaking news Arsenal told staff this morning

Arsenal told staff on a call this morning that the Emirates Stadium club plan to cut 60 jobs as part of cost-cutting measures, according to The Telegraph.

Mikel Arteta and his men strolled to a 3-0 victory over Lille in the Champions League last night, but it was bad news for some staff this morning.

The Gunners chief executive Richard Garlick informed employees of the North London club of the decision.

Arsenal have recorded losses in each of the last seven years as seen in their financial accounts.

Operating costs climbed to £201 million from £148m as seen in reports for 2024-25, and the North Londoners have made the decision to make some staff redundant.

Arsenal will concentrate on off-field areas, with the footballing departments, those working in The Arsenal Foundation, community positions and the security department not affected.

The decision was necessary as the Gunners are desperate to balance the books and not flout the financial regulations of the Premier League.

While they did not spend what they were ready to in the summer transfer window, Arsenal are quite close to the line on the financial rules.

They won their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, but it has not resulted in an immediate financial boost for the club.

Arteta has been very instrumental in turning the Gunners into credible title challengers after years of being the butt of the jokes.

However, he is helpless to salvage their current financial situation and more jobs could be cut in the coming months.
