“Who is Lamine Yamal? I only know Sane.” These were the words of Galatasaray midfielder Mario Lemina from 2025, which resurfaced in the buildup of his team’s game against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League last night.

His old comments took social media by storm as they came as a direct taunt in the face of Barcelona’s leading Ballon d’Or contender.

As the Catalans’ legendary former No.10 Lionel Messi has done so many times in the past, the current bearer of the iconic shirt, Lamine Yamal, followed suit last night by talking on the field with a devastating performance.

The Spanish winger was simply unstoppable against Galatasaray, particularly in the second half when he single-handedly opened the floodgates with a sumptuous assist to Fermin Lopez to put his side in the lead.

Minutes later, he produced a fake-rabona inspired assist to Anthony Gordon which has gone viral on social media, and it is safe to say that he has stolen all the limelight.

One aspect in which Yamal is very different from his predecessor Messi is his boldness, and he once again did the same after his stunning show against Galatasaray.

On a fiery update on his social media after the game, Yamal has come out to ask Lemina a rhetorical question that shows who spoke louder on the field.

“He know me now?,” his caption read, sending out a strong message.

His teammates only went on to fuel Yamal’s post-game celebratory post, as they commented with bold replies that amplified its effect.

“I think he knows you now,” Raphinha wrote, backing his partner in crime.

Adidas, Yamal’s chief sponsor, also used his post to push his propaganda, saying,

“The brother asked who Yamal is and received a live tutorial.”

While the banter is all fun and games, Lemina himself came out to acknowledge and appreciate Yamal’s brilliance on his social media.

“Of course, I know you. My little one is crazy about you. Congratulations,” he wrote on a story, praising the Ballon d’Or candidate and acknowledging his talent.

At this point, opponents will have learnt well that challenging the youngster does not often end well. After all, Yamal is a player who walks the talk.
