Doctor Says Liverpool Star’s Comeback Could Be Imminent Despite Raising Concern Of Six Month Injury Layoff

Liverpool may have prevented Dominik Szoboszlai from facing a lengthy six-month layoff, according to doctor Gyorgy Bakanek.

The midfielder sat out the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend, and Bakanek said the decision was likely the right one, taking into account the risk of serious injury:

“It’s probably the case that Dominik was in pain, which is why he’s sitting out a match or two now, thereby preventing his hamstring from tearing and ruling him out for six months, which shows he’s taking a cautious approach…”

Bakanek thinks the Reds have managed to protect Szoboszlai’s fitness, and he could now return to action very shortly:

“This strain can be treated with massage and various remedies, and recovery is likely to take around seven to ten days.”

When could Szoboszlai return?

The Hungarian international did not travel for the Champions League game against LASK on Wednesday evening, and based on Bakanek’s estimate, he may not face Brentford this weekend either.

Szoboszlai could potentially be back to face Villarreal next Tuesday, but a lot will depend on how his recovery goes.

Latest Liverpool injury news

Szoboszlai is one of six first-team players currently on the treatment table. Cody Gakpo (ankle) and Alexander Isak (thigh) were injured during the international break, and head coach Andoni Iraola has suggested they could return within a week or two.

Giovanni Leoni (ACL) is believed to be close to taking part in full training for the first time in 13 months, but Conor Bradley (knee) is still several weeks away from being back available.

Hugo Ekitike is targeting a return in December, although Iraola has said that January may well be a more realistic month for his comeback from a snapped Achilles tendon.
