Sean Dyche has claimed he missed out on an ‘amazing’ signing in a swap deal while he was Everton manager.
Dyche’s time as Everton gaffer was interesting. He saved the club from a dire situation when he took over from Frank Lampard, but things very quickly went stale under the former Burnley boss and he departed the club.
However, things perhaps could’ve turned out differently for Dyche at Goodison Park if he had his way in the transfer market.
Indeed, according to Dyche, he attempted three signings at Everton that could’ve changed the course of his time at the club, including one that could’ve been ‘amazing’.
Which former Everton player would you add to the current team, and why? 🤔 It has to be a striker, right?
Enough of these what if questions what bought going out next window and buying Tiago job sorted the Brazilian has got everything good in the air either foot don’t forget he scored a hat trick against us last season and then another two at there ground he’s just the ticket no matter what price
Lukaku at the same age, big dunc was great at his time but too many injuries for me….
Sean Dyche almost signed Scott McTominay for Everton
Dyche spoke about his transfer plans for Everton that didn’t come off.
Interestingly, the former Blues boss tried to sign two familiar names before their eventual moves to Merseyside – Jack Grealish and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
However, more intriguingly, Dyche also admitted that he almost signed Scott McTominay in a swap deal from Manchester United at this time.
“A lot of the players that ended up going there we were in for anyway. Dewsbury-Hall and the like, Grealish, people like that. We got close to getting McTominay in a swap deal at one point which would have been an amazing signing,” Dyche said.
McTominay in a swap deal would’ve been an interesting move, that’s for sure.
Since leaving Manchester United, McTominay has become a bona fide star for Napoli, and he had the potential to be excellent at Everton in a Dyche team.
Dyche doesn’t mention which player was set to join United the other way, but it is interesting to note that Jarrad Branthwaite is a long-term United target, so perhaps he was the one set to move the other way.
Who knows? If Grealish, Dewsbury-Hall and McTominay all signed for Everton under Dyche, maybe things would’ve panned out differently during that era.
