Liverpool play LASK in the Champions League on Wednesday, and a video shared on Instagram by Jamie Sciberras has added to the build-up in Austria.
Kick-off at the Raiffeisen Arena is at 5.45pm UK time.
Andoni Iraola’s side arrive after a 3-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City on Sunday. Three players missed that game through injury.
Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo withdrew from international duty with thigh and ankle injuries. Dominik Szoboszlai returned from the Hungary camp with a tight hamstring.
None of the three were included in Liverpool’s 23-player travelling party.
Iraola said it is difficult to tell when they will return, and he could not say whether it would be for Brentford or Villarreal.
Szoboszlai was therefore not named in the squad for the trip.
The video from Sciberras nonetheless shows the midfielder with his team-mates on Liverpool’s pre-match walk in Linz today.
After the City game, Iraola said Szoboszlai had returned from international duty with an overload and had been protected in training.
The manager described the problem as “something very small.” Liverpool have not announced a return date.
The absence is significant for Iraola. Szoboszlai started six of Liverpool’s first seven games of the season, including the Champions League win over Atletico Madrid. He scored the equaliser in that 2-1 comeback.
The injuries have forced changes to the group. Iraola has included academy players Josh Sonni-Lambie and Wellity Lucky, while Wataru Endo and Federico Chiesa are not in the club’s Champions League squad.
Sonni-Lambie has yet to make his senior competitive debut.
LASK arrive in poor form. They lost 1-0 to AEK Athens in their opening game and have never beaten an English club, with one draw and five defeats.
Liverpool won both previous meetings, 3-1 in Linz and 4-0 at Anfield, in the 2023-24 Europa League.
Liverpool’s schedule stays busy. Ryan Gravenberch will serve a one-match league ban at Brentford on Saturday after his sending-off against City.
Villarreal then visit Anfield in the Champions League on Tuesday, October 20.
