Liverpool travel to Linz on Wednesday for a Champions League tie against LASK, with kick-off at 17:45 UK time. It comes three days after a 3-0 home defeat by Manchester City.
That was Andoni Iraola’s first defeat as head coach. The game was goalless until Ryan Gravenberch was sent off in the 62nd minute.
Injuries add to the pressure. Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexander Isak and Cody Gakpo missed the City game and remain doubts, with Iraola reported to be pessimistic about their availability. Liverpool have four games in 10 days.
LASK are the Austrian champions and are playing in the Champions League proper for the first time. They lost 1-0 at AEK Athens on matchday one. Liverpool beat them home and away in the 2023-24 Europa League.
The club’s Under-19s played LASK earlier on Wednesday in the UEFA Youth League. They came from 2-0 down to win 4-2 at the Waldstadion in Pasching.
Captain Will Wright scored a hat-trick for Rob Page’s side. The game also produced a club record, as 15-year-old midfielder Luca Eden became Liverpool’s youngest goalscorer in the competition.
LASK led through goals from Paul Krapf in the 23rd minute and Jonas Ilk in the 51st. Wright then scored twice in three minutes to level.
Eden made it 3-2 in the 84th minute. Wright kept a chance alive and rolled the ball across for him.
Wright added a late penalty after substitute AJ Yeguo was fouled, sending goalkeeper Christof Katzmayr the wrong way. Eden had also released Wright for the first of his goals.
Eden, who is 15 years and seven months old, is the second-youngest English goalscorer in Youth League history. Only Arsenal’s Max Dowman was younger.
The goal adds to a run of club records. Eden became the youngest player in Liverpool’s Under-18 history in November 2025, aged 14 years, eight months and 20 days. He became their youngest Under-18 scorer in January, with a penalty in a 7-1 win over Burnley.
On 9 September, he started the Youth League opener against Atletico Madrid. Aged 15 years and 182 days, he became the youngest Liverpool player to appear in the competition.
He set up a goal in the 2-2 draw, which Liverpool had led 2-0. Page described his performance as outstanding.
Luca Eden joined Liverpool aged four and captained England Under-15s late last year. He was born on 11 March 2011.
The Athletic’s James Pearce has reported that Liverpool plan to offer him a scholarship ahead of next season. The club also wants a pre-contract agreement for his first professional deal, which he can sign when he turns 17 in March 2028.
The win leaves Liverpool on four points from two games. They host Villarreal at the Kirkby Academy on Tuesday, 20 October, with former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina coaching the visitors.
