Guehi has been one of Manchester City's best players in the opening months of Maresca's tenure at the Etihad Stadium, with the latter replacing Pep Guardiola at the helm in June.

City extended their perfect start to the 2026/27 season to eight games in all competitions at the weekend as goals from Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Rayan Cherki secured a 3-0 win over Liverpool at Anfield.

The Blues have won six out of six games in the Premier League campaign so far and sit at the summit as they look to dethrone reigning champions Arsenal, who edged Guardiola and co to a first league title in 22 years last season.

The backdrop of the last few weeks for Guehi and Man City

Manchester City return to UEFA Champions League action on Wednesday night against twice-in-a-row champions Paris Saint-Germain, just days after playing their first game since an independent panel declared the club guilty of breaching the Premier League's financial rules during 2009-18.

City have vehemently denied all wrongdoing and have filed a formal, comprehensive appeal against the verdict given by a three-member independent commission.

The backdrop of any and all football the Blues will play for the remainder of this season will be dominated by talk around City's financial scandal, with the Blues found guilty of artificially inflating sponsor revenue and a failure to co-operate with the Premier League's investigation.

The appeal process will commence in a few weeks as several rival clubs line up to seek compensation from Manchester City over sporting ramifications of the Blues' financial conduct, though the dust is not expected to settle in the matter until 2028 or 2029.

The onus was on Maresca's side at Anfield on Sunday but after Ryan Gravenberch was shown a second yellow card just past the hour mark, Manchester City wiped the floor with Liverpool and sent a huge statement of intent to anyone and everyone rooting against them in the appeal process.

We've got a very open relationships, says Guehi on Maresca

Guarding Gianluigi Donnarumma's goal alongside club captain Ruben Dias was Marc Guehi, who has enjoyed a stellar start to life under Maresca as he continues to thrive at the Etihad Stadium since joining from Crystal Palace in January for £20 million.

Lifting the lid on his relationship with Maresca in conversation with UEFA ahead of Wednesday's Champions League meeting with PSG, Guehi said: "We’ve got a very open relationship in terms of I can talk to him whenever and whatever about," as quoted by official Manchester City media.

"And he’s very open with me and all players. You can already tell his ideas but also personality, how much of a winner he is, how much every day means to him. I think that reflects in the group, how we train, how we approach every game."

Guehi is expected to retain a starting berth against Luis Enrique's side at the Etihad Stadium, with Manchester City seeking a nine straight win this season off the back of successful trips to Porto, Manchester United and Liverpool already this season - posting clean sheets in every triumph.
